It’s time to weave them togther
<

Here comes the monsoon wedding season again.

I just attend my cousin’s best friend’s wedding.

Had great fun, because she (my cousin) rented a car for a week.

Using the car as the pretext we ended up going home late for the past three days(As late as 2am) and attending the wedding was equally fun, especially when it’s someone of your same age group being in the Limelight and not forgetting all the nosy aunties would be like “So my dear, when’s it going to be your turn?”Hahaha, and boy, were we bombarded with a lot of these “Qs” and as if we had a written script, we chanted out “Inshallah, soon! Hahaha…See how societal pressure is like, very so for an Indian Muslim community like mine. If you hit 22yrs and above, suddenly you are arrowed, especially during the wedding season. It’s worst still if you are a degree holder, around 25 and not yet married… (Jun am sorry;hahahaha)) they would go like, “this gal is very arrogant…finding for another degree holder as a groom”, Ayah who ask them to study so much, getting to know what happens in the kitchen is good enough, No need to study so much”. Sounds like an old fashioned statement, but sadly enough it’s instilled in some people’s thought. Oh yeah, I forgot our parents, whom are super affected by our “Society” ,would be over protective over us and would be practicing the exacting maternal appraisal to narrow down the “0b1311b0 Suitable Boy”, But let’s not forget, Above all ALLAH (swt) has

Plans for us….!:)

hmmm indeed your reflection is amusing….hmmm yes btw thanks for ‘rubbing the salt on the wound’. It is indeed greatly ‘comforting’ to be a 25 yr old degree holder after reading your views on them….the potential spinsters..luckily i stopped being a bridesmaid for the fourth time…i deflected the ‘pantang’ successfully…so insha allah i still have some chance…

btw the way the suitable boy is a good read….its long with many many sub plots….but i still fell in love with the novel set in the very colourful india in the early fifties…especially with the character Kabir….but like in most real life situations…girl does not marry the love of her life but the ’suitable’ boy whom her mother chose… hahaha is that familiar or what?….

Yeaps..I wont forget that “fat” book which was my true campanion during my attachment at SPH(btw it belongs to you, guess i took it from you two years ago.hahaha(omigosh), But its truly a heart warming novel.I love the mixture of the Mehras, the Kapoors, the Chatterjis and the Khans to spice up the colours of the post-colonial India during the 1950s!Yeap..the ending sounds way too familiar…hmmm…maybe its time for us to write another “Fat” novel from our Life’s chronicles…hahahaha!

Hey, sounds familiar Anishar, tks 4 reliving my rusty memories!!! I’m a part of dat community. Been there, done that! Haha.

29 in 4 days, still single (but certainly NOT unhappy!)..Engaged ONCE (parental pressure -> “suitable boy”) but broke it off coz he was..oh wel, juz “unsuitable” 4 me! Happy. Fell in luv ONCE wif the wrong guy (ironicaly, I fell in dat luv only coz I tot he was MY Mr Right) & the relationship self-terminates 1 wk b4 his family came 2 ask 4 my hand. Cldn’t be more glad!

I’m not spared fm all these qns from such nosy aunties either, but at least I get 2 evade the qn wif my tongue-in-cheek answers :
    1) Money not enough, kurang seposen (lack of 10cents)..I save save, habis (finish)..I save agn, habis agn! How 2 get married like dat?!
    OR
    2) U wanna sponsor? U wanna sponsor, besok (tomorrow) I get married!

Wif these kinda answers, bet nosy aunties wil get my msg:
    “BACK-OFF!”

    Nice post - enjoyed it!
