080082005. An essential countdown to a very important occasion in my life. Nope I was not talking about the National Day event…I would like to use the word, apart from that, because I do have to show some respect for the country that I was born in. Tracking back to
August 9th 2004 , major twist of fate was being bestowed upon me, but then again…that is not the motion of my reflection for the day. I was feeling so much like a rotten egg, ever since attending the bayan(Religious Talk) yesterday by Uztad Shahul Hameed. I sat there listening…(If only I could relate an act of the thoughts in my heart upon listening to every word then close your eyes and imagine this…if your could take a human sized machine drill and starting at the tip of my head to drill me further in the ground( of course imagine without the blood and the gore), That was exactly how I felt. I couldn’t suppress this nausea feeling of mine to do verbal vomit on today’s reflection.
Shirk, that was one word which always stays in my mind, because I always fall back on that very word to safeguard on the fact of being a Muslim (sin of Shirk denies the very purpose of man’s creation, it is to God the gravest of sins; the unforgivable sin.)…But yesterday talk proves what a misconception I had on the very immense meaning of the word Shirk. I do think of Allah, HE is the lord of my creation… I am not performing shirk, this is what I use to proclaim till I found out the underlying meaning off the word Shirk
I would like to Highlight upon this Hadith: Mabmood ibn Lubayd reported, "Allah’s messenger (saws) said: "The thing I fear for you the most is ash-Shirk al-Asghar (minor shirk)." The companions asked "Oh! Messenger of Allah, what is minor Shirk?" He replied "Ar-Riyaa (showing off), for verily Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection when people are receiving their rewards, ‘Go to those for whom you were showing off in the material world and see if you can find any reward from them.
Mahmood bin Lubayd also said, "The Prophet (saws) came out and announced, ‘O people, beware of secret Shirk!’ The people asked, ‘O messenger of Allah, what is secret Shirk?’ He replied, ‘When a man gets up to pray and strives to beautify his prayer because people are looking at him; that is secret Shirk.
From what the Uztad mentioned I learned that (Thruth of Ignorance) to fear ALLAH or failure to think of Allah (Swt), when commiting a sin is equivalent to committing the act of Shirk as well, why because the reason is very simple, verily ALLAH (swt) does not like when members of the ummah commits a mistake or sin and if the sin is being carried out, it becomes a doubt upon Iman itself, we give in to our Kalbu(Heart) and forsake the Yakin(Trust) we have on Allah(swt)’s command. Nausubillah (May God forbid)and thus falling under the catergories of Shirk. I closed my eyes to open the doors of Questioning within my heart and my values of being a good muslimah. Inshallah (By God’s Will), May I lead myself in way of not a Rotten eggJ
